March DisneyBound Challenge 2016

You may have noticed it’s not Friday but a post is up! That’s because I have a surprise post here with the end of March but also a surprise review with a Q&A that I think you may be interested in hearing about coming atcha tomorrow! Who am I? I don’t even know…

Ah, March. You know what that means?

March DisneyBound Challenge month! (You did read the title of this post, right?)

DisneyBounding is a movement founded by fashion blogger Leslie Kay as a way for people to channel their love for Disney characters into every day outfits. This is especially popular in Disney parks because adults are not allowed to wear costumes (for fear of confusing guests). Usually this is done by incorporating a color scheme with some small details, rather than wearing a full-on costume. (As I mentioned last year, it’s the difference between wearing a mermaid tail with a purple shell bikini top and wearing a purple shirt and green pants to portray Ariel.)

I have been a big fan of DisneyBounding and put in a bigger effort to put bounds together for the March Disneybound Challenge, even though I never come close to doing the 31 days of outfits that many other folks in the community put together. (Those people are amazing! This year, a few of them are even doing #31bounds1movie, where all of their outfits for the month are inspired by one single movie.)

This year, I struggled at the beginning of the month because I wanted to put together some fresh outfits and not do any that I’ve done in the past. Of course, I picked easier characters in the past so I was reaching out of my comfort zone, so I’m glad that I was able to mix things up a bit!

I wore these throughout the month, but I didn’t photograph any of the outfits until the very end of the month OOPS here we go:

“The magic feather! Now you can fly!”
(Dumbo, Dumbo)

I rediscovered my love for Dumbo when I rewatched his movie last year with Ben (in my ever-present efforts to make him a Disnerd). It’s one of those older Disney films that makes not-that-much sense to me (“Pink Elephants on Parade” really freaked Ben out) and Dumbo doesn’t have any dialogue in hte movie at all. But if I ever watch “Baby Mine” without crying, you know that I’ve been replaced with a robot.

"Very poetic. But it is not quite Shakespeare..." (Duchess, Aristocats)
“Very poetic. But it is not quite Shakespeare…”
(Duchess, Aristocats)

I realized halfway through the month that I’ve done an Aristocats character every year that I’ve been doing this so far! So, in keeping with this annual tradition, I guess, I decided to try to do Duchess proud. If I had half the glamor that Duchess has, I would be in a good place, lemme tell ya. (If I was able to keep all-white as pristine as her, too… pretty sure I may have stained these pants just by looking at them…)

"I'm late! I'm late!" (White Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland)
“I’m late! I’m late!”
(White Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland)

Spinning the idea of doing White Rabbit for a little while now and did this one at the beginning of the month, since the color scheme was pretty similar to Dumbo. (I didn’t think far enough ahead to save him for Easter.) (Although I did rewear all of them to shoot on Easter…)

"That is not brightly colored or shaped like a dinosaur..." (Disgust, Inside Out)
“That is not brightly colored or shaped like a dinosaur…”
(Disgust, Inside Out)

My Disgust-bound also doubled as my St. Patrick’s Day look, actually! Because this is my wear-green-once-a-year dress, after all. Another Pixar hit that made me cry, I appreciated Disgust and her style and her voice actress, Mindy Kaling!

"Isn't this great? The salty sea air, the wind blowing in your face. Ah, the perfect day to be at sea!" (Prince Eric, The Little Mermaid)
“Isn’t this great? The salty sea air, the wind blowing in your face. Ah, the perfect day to be at sea!”
(Prince Eric, The Little Mermaid)

Yes, I do love The Little Mermaid! As seen here, here, and here, to mention a few instances. Thought I’d take Prince Eric out for a little spin and give Ben a break from having to serve as my nautical prince for once. I was struggling with his cobalt blue pants until I realized I was saving this dress for another bound for another time and could use that instead! Max is always ready to go for a Prince Eric bound, and for that I am very grateful.

"There is no escape. Don't make me destroy you." (Darth Vader, Star Wars)
“There is no escape. Don’t make me destroy you.”
(Darth Vader, Star Wars)

Rehashing the bound I wore on the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with my little nod to the Dark Side. But let’s be real, I really just love wearing black with red accents; it is one of my favorites and I love an excuse to wear it. I recently watched the original trilogy all the way through without falling asleep (too much…), so I was excited to channel my inner Sith lord.

These were pretty fun to put together, even though I slacked off a lot and didn’t photograph any of them on the day I wore them! I couldn’t even be bothered to Snapchat more than one… But, another March, another challenge done. 6 isn’t too bad, and it’s definitely better than last year!

ALSO another Disneybound will be coming your way quite soon, so keep a weather eye out!

Do you have any suggestions for future DisneyBounds for me to do?
What DisneyBounds have you done?
