Another year, another list of movies! This year marks the first full year I had AMC A-List, which I didn’t take full advantage of but did make it easier for us to watch more movies more spontaneously. I had thought that moving to New York would mean we would watch fewer movies but having A-List has meant that we spent more weeknights at the movies than at home.
(For every movie I saw, including movies released before 2019, and other media I consumed, please check out my Media Log.)
- Captain Marvel
- Avengers: Endgame
- The Hustle
- Pokemon Detective Pikachu
- Booksmart
- Aladdin
- Men In Black: International
- Toy Story 4
- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- Stuber
- The Farewell
- The Lion King
- Hustlers
- Parasite
- Joker
- Frozen II
- Knives Out
- Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker
- Jumanji: The Next Level
Not a sponsored plug: If you live/work near an AMC and you watch at least 2 movies a month, I recommend A-List, especially if are a former MoviePass user. Being able to book your seats ahead of time, even for premium formats like IMAX and 3D and Dolby, is really nice. (We like to try for reclining seats when we can!)
What were your favorite/least favorite movies of the year? I really loved Parasite, and had the most unhappy online discourse about Rise of Skywalker but my least favorite was the “live-action” Lion King remake.
What movies are you excited for in 2020? We are trying to decide if there are enough movies that we want to see next year for us to renew A-List, actually! Even though Endgame ended a big chapter of the MCU, I’m still excited looking forward to superhero movies like Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984. I’ll almost definitely be watching the live-action Mulan even though I’m extremely skeptical about it, as I have been with all the live-action Disney remakes. It’ll also be a pretty good year for musical theater adaptations, with In the Heights and West Side Story so we’ll see how those pan out!
