Even though I grew up watching too much television in general, I never thought to do a year-end TV recap until the end of last year, when it suddenly became an obvious gap in my year-end recaps! Movies and books but no TV, when I know I spend a ton of time watching TV? (Maybe it was denial about how much of it I was watching…)
Below are the full seasons of shows released in 2021 that I watched this year! To see every show (and movie and book etc.) I watched this past year, including older seasons, you can check my 2021 Media Log.

- History of Swear Words
- WandaVision
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
- Shadow and Bone
- Life in Colour with David Attenborough
- A Black Lady Sketch Show (S2)
- Loki
- Never Have I Ever (S2)
- Star Wars: Visions
- What If?
- Ted Lasso (S2)
- Arcane
- The Witcher (S2)
- Hawkeye
- Insecure (S5)
It looks like I really am a sucker for MCU shows (and movies) but I’m also noticing that, besides Insecure (which is one of the most perfect shows), I haven’t watched anything past its 2nd season this year. It’s all debut seasons and follow-up seasons, probably because a lot of my shows ended in years past and I haven’t picked up this many new shows in a long time after giving up TV for Lent so many years ago.
Also, as someone who grew up without cable, I was astounded to realize at one point this year that I was subscribed to… 6? different streaming services! It was shocking and a sign that I was watching too much TV probably. I’ve cancelled them all and am waiting out the end of a free trial, but I’ll be free soon enough.
What were your favorite new seasons of TV this year? Mine might have to be… Shadow and Bone for being one of the best book adaptations I’ve seen in a long while (and for having just A+ Ben Barnes scenes), Arcane, and Insecure‘s final season. My favorite of the MCU shows… maybe Loki for how much fun I had watching (even though I completely forgot to log it and frantically had to edit this post moments before posting oops). It’s tough, I enjoyed most of the TV I watched this year!
What shows are you looking forward to next year? There are a bunch of shows I’m excited to see come back, like The Boys and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Harley Quinn, and of course there are fandom shows abound, like the new Lord of the Rings show and whatever Disney gives us (She-Hulk, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, new Mandalorian to start). At this rate, I’m going to need to either start monetizing my TV habit or do another reset like I did back in 2014…
